Hello and welcome back to Make more, do more weekly tip #30. This week we are covering the sixth principle of time management…
FLEXIBILITY — Don’t let the picture throw you! While we all can use a little flexibility with our bodies, today I’m talking about being flexible in managing time within our business. Again, this tip ties back to the last two principles; organization and to-do lists. Experts in time management say that you should only plan out 50% of your available time. Why only 50%? Imagine your entire day is booked solid and an unexpected family emergency comes up. Something has to be pushed off the schedule. Be sure to include time for interruptions and distractions.
Incorporating flexibility into your schedule allows time for those expected and unexpected interruptions and emergencies. The process is simple. Plan your routine tasks when you expect to be interrupted. Schedule quiet time for those projects that require more concentration and focus. If you do get interrupted during that time, ask yourself a question…..what is the most important thing I can be doing with my time right now?
