Gmail Management: 10 Organizational Tips for Gmail Users

Tip #8: DO NOT Use Automatic Filters if you Need to Read it Right Now

Things that might be worth using filters for but not having them automatically sent to their label would be things that are important. Such emails might include emails from Clients or Leads. You don’t want to miss an important email from a client that might cost you or them money. So create a filter that will automatically label it, but NOT send it to the labelled folder. Once you’ve had a chance to read it from your inbox then you can decide if you need to put it in your Client folder or in a different folder such as your To Do or Follow Up label.
